Sixteen Verses of Prayer of Atonement

1. Prenatal Phase

Life begins in the embryonic stage

Includes congenital defects in cage

Difficulty in birth is many fold

Complications are many to unfold

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

2. Fetal phase

Swimming in one's own excreta

Bondage begins with the placenta

Karma is the reason to trace back

Which determines what one lack

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

3.Infancy

 Addicted to the breast milk

I cried all day with colic

I could not move around freely

Fear and insecurity grew easily

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

4. Childhood

I had no say over my limbs

Was always dependent on things

Primary care givers were scary

Created emotions that made weary

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you5

5. Youth

Feeling proud and arrogant

With great sense of entitlement

Was bitten by snakes of longing

And personified them as belonging

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

6. Adulthood

Desires kept sprouting making dizzy

Exhausted in the process of being busy

Discrimination was bitten due to this addiction

Created a sense of dependency and affliction

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

7. Midlife crisis

The catch and kill mentality continued

Weakened body, devoid of dancing dreadlocks

Misery of wants and insecurity continued

Miserly adulthood wasted without a direction

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

8. Old age

With age sense organs lose potency

The organs of action fail slowly

The diseases appear with bereavement

The loneliness malingers with delusions

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

9.  Omissions and commissions

Never did I do proper worship

Never did I do proper rituals

Never did I do Sravanam

Never did I do Dyanam

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

10Omissions and commissions

Never did I chant sacred hymns

Never did I do Yoga and pranayama

The list of omissions and commissions

Are extending beyond my cognition

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

11.Omissions and commissions

 Never did I visualized You

Never did I absorb in You

Never did I praise the one who is free of triguna

Never did I worship the one who is free of papa and punya

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

12.Lack of clarity in pursuit

I was always nurturing likes and dislikes

I was pursuing Yoga and Kshema

Never listened to the promise of Gita

Kept wandering here and there forever

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

13. Fleeting nature of Universe

No use with gaining wealth

No purpose with progeny and family

Nothing is permanent including time and space

Fickle as the ripples in the water

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

14. Removal of cataract by Guru

I was the lady with the flower basket

Carrying the burden beyond the casket

Sraddha in Guru who opened my eyes

My darkness is burnt with the light

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

15. The self-effulgent Siva

Life is momentary like a streak of lightning

I salute the self-effulgent consort of Uma

The one whose eyes are sun, moon and fire

The one who is covered with ashes

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

16. Sixteen verses of Prayer of Atonement

     Sixteen represents completeness

     Sixteen step Puja invokes Isvara

     Sixteen verses of this prayer

I surrender at your feet for atonement

Oh Siva!  Oh, the auspicious Lord of lords!

My omissions and commissions be forgiven by you

Just Be ( Summa Iru)

Just Be (Summa Iru)  As I sat in the weekly satsangs on Ramana Maharshi, Bhagavan’s question echoed within me: “When are you coming to Tiruvannamalai?” That question did not remain a question for long. It ripened itself. The long vigil of Maha Shivaratri, chanting the Ramana Tamil parayanam and the 26th chapter of the Ribhu Gita, deepened the saṅkalpa into something steady and irreversible. After a week-long Vedanta camp in Rishikesh, the journey unfolded almost on its own. Flights were booked. A car was arranged from Chennai. For the first time, plans were made not for the world or family, but for the Self. And in that sincerity, something remarkable happened: the universe did not resist. No one in the family objected. It was as if life itself stepped aside. Despite war and unrest disrupting travel across the world, when asked, “Are you still going?” the response arose effortlessly: “If it has to happen, it will.” In the bustle of Rishikesh, the mind wandered through sense objects...

A Tale of Two birds

A   Tale of two birds Old Īśvara had a farm, And on this farm He had a tree, And on this tree there sat a bird, With a  coo coo  here, and a  coo coo  there, Here a  coo , there a  coo , Everywhere  coo coo ! This bird eats the berries, Some are bitter, some are sweet. Fluttering here, fluttering there, Restless in its endless search. Old Īśvara had a farm, And on this farm He had a tree, And on this tree there sat a jīva, With a  glub glub  here,  and a  glub glub  there , Here a  glub,  there a  glub   , Everywhere  glub glub   ! The jīva whines in sorrow, The jīva whines in fear. Forgetting its true nature,  It suffers birth after birth. Old Īśvara had a farm, And on this farm He had a tree, And on this tree the jīva met the Guru, And the jīva turned into a bhakta. She asks, “Give me this, give me that,” She prays in sorrow and distress. She makes her bargains and deals Slowly c...

Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hike — An Adventurous Awakening Journey Within

Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hike — An Adventurous Awakening Journey Within Paro Taktsang , famously known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery , is one of Bhutan’s most sacred and breathtaking places — perched on a cliffside at an altitude of around 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) in Paro, Bhutan.  It’s not just a hike; it’s a pilgrimage.  We began our hike from the base around 7 AM. Wooden walking sticks rented from locals in hand, Strava app turned on, and spirits eager, we followed our guide, Kinzan, who kindly guided us along. We took a “before hike” photo — smiling, unaware of the lessons waiting ahead. The winding path stretched ahead, shaded by tall trees, strings of prayer flags, with hundreds of steps ascending through the forest.  Around us, travelers from all over the world climbing along—each group led by its own local guide. Step by step, one foot before the other, the hike began.  With every upward step, doubts crept in —  Will I make it?   The walking stick ...
