A Meditation in fivefold discernment- Viveka Pañchaka
Tattva Viveka - Discernment of the real from unreal
Discern the real from the unreal
The real is ever-present
The real is unchanging
The real cannot be negated
The real was before,
The real is now,
The real will be forever
The real depends on nothing
The real shines by itself
Mahābhūta Viveka- Discernment of five elements
Discern the gross from the subtle
All forms arise from the five great elements
Toes, legs, and thighs — Prithvi
Pelvis and abdomen — Āpah
The fire of hunger — Agni
Lungs and chest — Vāyu
Sinuses and skull — Ākāśa
Know the five subtle prāṇas:
Circulation. Respiration. Digestion
Elimination. Reproduction
Know the five sense-objects:
Touch, Smell, Taste, Form, Sound
Know the five sense-organs:
Skin, Nose, tongue, Eyes, Ears
See how they chase their objects
Know the five organs of action:
Hands, Feet, Speech,
Excretion, Creation
They act — with and without will
Pañchakośa Viveka - Discernment of five sheaths of mistakes
Know this body is born of food (Annamaya)
Know prāṇa moves without command (Prāṇamaya)
Know the mind is restless, wandering (Manomaya)
Breath is the bridge between body and mind
Breath gives life to the body
Breath brings stillness to the mind
The actor is unreal (Vijñānamaya)
The enjoyer is unreal (Ānandamaya)
Knower, known, and knowing —
All are One
Dvaita Viveka - Discernment of duality
See that duality is unreal
The world is a passing phenomenon
The world is dependent,
The world is ever-changing
Dismiss the world —
Mahāvākya Viveka- The realization
Beyond the body,
Beyond the mind,
Beyond the intellect —
What remains is You
What remains is Real
Tat Tvam Asi
You Are That.
