House of the Sun- Haleakalā Sunrise
Ringing bells of the alarm,
Waking the mind with gentle charm,
A body that is fifty-three years old,
Rides along the winding road.
People from distant places,
Huddled close by divine graces
Below, the crater—vast and deep,
Reflecting the unconscious asleep.
An hour and half in waiting,
Chanting mantras, softly praying.
Gazing at stars in the dark,
Chasing desires, kindling sparks.
Grey clouds drift across the skies,
The moon departs with soft goodbyes.
The crater grows more clear,
As dawn begins to near.
The absolute being, cloud on high,
Awareness stirs, the self aligned.
Attention to the world outside
Brings inner intellect alive.
The inner Sun is illuminated,
Darkness of ignorance dissipated
The fog of doubt drifts far away,
Eternal soul shines in the inner silence.
Clarity dawns with fullness bright,
The shadow of small self lost to light.
Contentment blossoms in every heart,
Leaving the dark silhouette apart.
